CLIC- Cooperative Learning Initiative Centre had it's very first concert on October 2nd 2010 in Kota Kemuning. We tried to involve everyone in the performances that was lined up for the afternoon.
Adrian and Joyce's family together with my family helped set up the food, drinks balloons and chairs before the guest arrived. The light at the stairs blew so we lit candles instead. It made it look so magical, like stepping into a movie or a storybook.
Then we started off with Andy's stop motion video which was very fascinating to watch. It began with a few lego pieces and then turning into a house with windows and a person going in. That short video must have taken a lot of effort and time to produce and the audience liked it.
After that, a group of us sang a song called 'The Impossible Dream'. The words of the song was very meaningful and inspiring. It took us a long time to rehearse that piece and safe to say, we didn't mess it up. Much.
We then had three piano performances by Marcus, Jonathan and Zhen-Zhu. They all played really well and they're parent must've been very proud of them.
Then it was my turn to perform with Sam. It. Was. Humiliating. We didn't practice because when I wanted to rehearse with her, she'd be having a drink or changing or doing something else. Right before our performance, she was still eating chips. We sat down with our guitars, she looked at me and said "What's the first chord?"
Sam will be Sam and we lived through our performance.
I then sang my solo piece that I absolutely love called "Bless The Broken Road", a cover originally sung by Rascal Flatts. Country Superstars. I don't know how I did. It's up to you to decide.
Sidd did some beatboxing which in my opinion wasn't really good. The beatboxing was good, don't get me wrong but it was quite boring. He also did stand-up comedy (more like sit-up comedy because he sat during most of the act). Now that was funny. It made people laugh and Arian has been imitating that since.
The little kids did two plays. "Old Hat, New Hat" starring Yun Zhe and Arian and "The Spooky Old Tree" Starring the pre- school class and narrated by Lee Wei.
They spent months making many hats for "Old Hat, New Hat". Painting, taping, applying glue and glitter and it starts off with Arian walking sadly with his head down and an old hat on his head. He tries on many different hats some being too fluffy, too big, small, red, blue, tall... And he finds nothing. Then he turns back to his old hat and realizes that it isn't too bad.
"The Spooky Old Tree" is about three little bears exploring an old tree and all the adventures they had in there. Giant keys, Sleeping bears, Creaky stairs and running back home to mum, safe at last.
They were all so cute running around.
Kai Yen did a singing piece "Somewhere Over The Rainbow". She is only 6 and performing in front of an audience is a quest she has yet to conquer. Not many people have the courage to sing in public even now as grown-ups, so what makes you think a six year old will be different? So my mum came up with the idea of recording her performance a day ahead. She has the sweetest most purest voice ever. It made you believe in what she was singing, I think she did an amazing job.
Her brother Keith did something too. He wrote two essays titled "The ugly Malaysian" and "The Beautiful Malaysian" and he was asked to present them both at the concert. It was very interesting and showed the different sides of Malaysians. How caring we can be and at the same time how selfish we can be.
The final number was what I had been waiting for. Sam and I spent a few months rehearsing and choreographing the moves with Adrian, Joyce and Zhen-Zhu for our dance: Ballet vs. Street Dance. Not all of us are well co-ordinated but we pulled it off.
The concert went well, and I had loads of fun. Can't wait for another event like this. Who knows, maybe soon.
